Antinode

A location about half way between adjacent nodes where the amplitude is a relative maximum.

For an axial resonator:

  1. The front and back surfaces of the resonator will be antinodes.
  2. The antinode will have minimum axial stress. For this reason joints are usually located at antinodes, so that the stress on the joint and stud will be minimized.
  3. For a full_wave resonator there will be an additional antinode located at approximately midlength.

For a prismatic flexural resonator the antinode will have maximum flexure stress since this is the location of maximum curvature.
